Moldovan Rugs, also known as Bessarabian Kilims, are the very symbol of Moldovan culture and identity. The Moldovan rug is the material and visual preservation of ancestral symbolism and centuries-old practices. Now threatened by modernity, the collective memory and culture around this craft are fading. The Haidu Collection is ensuring that the story of each individual carpet, as well as its maker, is preserved and told to the world.
The Story of Craftswomen
Manufacturing and weaving carpets historically have been stories of female entrepreneurship and emancipation in Moldova. Each carpet in the Haidu Collection pays homage to the tremendous skills and work of each craftswoman by documenting their stories and those of every single carpet.
