Vintage Moldovan Rug "The Golden Tray"
This rug is a unique take on the classic Moldovan carpet motifs and colours of the second half of the 20th century. It was made in the 1980s by now 81-year-old Olga in Cobîlea, Șoldănești, Northern Moldova. The classic black background of most antique and vintage Moldovan rugs is replaced with an elegant tan brown background combined with a rich turqoise blue and bright floral motifs.
“The Tray” itself is of a golden yellow colour, carrying a rich rose bouquet - a trademark element of Moldovan rugs.
The “Tray” motif was introduced by craftswomen into rugs as a result of the rising popularity of Persian and Turkish rug elements in Soviet Moldova.
